Building blocks are the one toy almost every parent buys at least once, and the one where the box tells you least about the value. Out of 25,971 product listings pulled from 10 Pakistani toy shops, 625 are building blocks of some kind. Here is what they cost, and the one number on the box that decides whether you are getting a good deal.

39% of the listings we found were sold out, and as with every other category the sold out ones sit at the cheap end. So the price you can actually pay today is about Rs 868 above the price a search result shows you. Of the 384 sets you could genuinely buy on the day we checked, 22% were under Rs 2,000, 39% were under Rs 3,000 and 61% were under Rs 5,000.
The number that decides whether a set is good value: price per piece
Every other guide to this category compares boxes. That is the wrong comparison, because a box is not a unit of anything. We took the 362 listings in this data that state a piece count on the title and worked out what a single piece costs in each size band.

A small box is the most expensive plastic in the shop. A set under 50 pieces works out at about Rs 82 per piece. A set of 200 to 400 pieces works out at about Rs 11 per piece — roughly 7 times cheaper for the same plastic. Past that band the per-piece price stops falling, because you have started paying for licensing, printed pieces and an instruction booklet instead of for bricks.
What this means in a shop: if you are choosing between a small set now and a bigger set later, the bigger set is not the extravagant option. It is the cheaper one per brick, and blocks are the rare toy where more pieces genuinely means more play rather than more clutter. The exception is a toddler: chunky blocks come in small counts on purpose, so a high per-piece number there is the price of pieces that are too big to swallow, not bad value.

Type by type
Classic interlocking bricks
We found 336 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 1,995 and Rs 6,120, with the middle of the market at Rs 3,250. Of those, 196 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 4,130.
The default box: a bag of studded bricks with a picture on the front. Widest band on the page, because a hundred loose bricks and a thousand-piece licensed set sit in the same search.
Magnetic tiles
We found 115 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 2,295 and Rs 4,840, with the middle of the market at Rs 2,995. Of those, 44 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 3,375.
Flat magnetic squares and triangles that snap into shapes. The category that sells out fastest in this data, so what you see listed is often not what you can buy.
City, house and castle sets
We found 134 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 1,999 and Rs 8,250, with the middle of the market at Rs 3,992. Of those, 97 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 5,990.
A set built around one finished model. You are paying for the instruction booklet and the printed pieces as much as for the plastic.
Vehicle and robot build sets
We found 83 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 2,395 and Rs 8,990, with the middle of the market at Rs 3,990. Of those, 59 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 4,990.
Blocks that end up as one specific thing that moves. Higher floor than loose bricks, and the least sold out of the big types, which usually means slower selling.
Letters, numbers and learning sets
We found 84 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 2,350 and Rs 5,650, with the middle of the market at Rs 3,472. Of those, 70 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 3,694.
Blocks with characters printed on the face. The most reliably in-stock type here, which makes it the safest thing to order when a birthday is close.
Wooden blocks
We found 45 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 1,000 and Rs 3,300, with the middle of the market at Rs 1,850. Of those, 30 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 1,774.
The cheapest way into blocks in this market and the one that survives a toddler. No small parts, no batteries, nothing to lose under a sofa except the blocks themselves.
Marble runs and track sets
We found 29 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 2,395 and Rs 6,495, with the middle of the market at Rs 3,895. Of those, 18 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 5,942.
Blocks with a job: build the tower, drop the marble. Not for under-threes, because the marble is exactly the wrong size.
Chunky and toddler blocks
We found 25 listings. The middle half sit between Rs 1,899 and Rs 3,999, with the middle of the market at Rs 2,895. Of those, 12 were actually in stock, and their middle price was Rs 3,500.
Big pieces for small hands. Fewer pieces in the box by design, which is why the per-piece price in this band looks high and is not actually bad value.
Where the listings come from
As with remote control cars, the shop with the biggest block catalogue is not the shop you can actually buy blocks from. www.toycompany.pk carries 238 block listings in this data and 92% of them are sold out. A big catalogue is easy to publish and hard to keep in stock.

What actually moves the price of a block set
- Piece count, and nothing else, up to about 400 pieces. See the table above. Below that ceiling the per-piece price falls steeply, so counting pieces is the whole game.
- Whether the pieces are printed. Letters, numbers and faces are printed after moulding, and every printed face is a step in the factory. That is why learning sets sit above plain bricks at the same piece count.
- Whether it builds one thing or anything. A city or vehicle set is priced for the instruction booklet and the odd-shaped parts that only fit that model. Loose bricks are cheaper per piece and last longer, because there is nothing to finish.
- Piece size. Chunky and toddler blocks use several times the plastic per piece, so a 30-piece toddler box weighs more than a 200-piece brick bag.
- The box. A clip-shut plastic box costs real money and is the difference between a set that survives a year and a set that ends up in three different drawers.
- Delivery. Rs 200 to Rs 300 is normal in Pakistan and it is usually added after you have chosen the set. Blocks are heavy, so this is one category where it bites. Ours is free anywhere in Lahore, with no minimum order.
Questions people ask about building block prices
What is a reasonable price for building blocks in Pakistan?
For a first proper set for a child of about three to seven, the honest range is Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000, which is where the middle of this market sits once you count only the sets that are actually in stock. Under Rs 1,500 you are usually looking at a small bag with fewer than fifty pieces, which is the worst value per piece in the whole category. Above Rs 8,000 you are paying for a licensed name or a single finished model rather than for more bricks.
How many pieces should a set have?
Between 200 and 400 for a child who can already build. That band is the cheapest plastic per piece in this data, and it is enough to build something and still have pieces left. For a toddler, piece count is the wrong measure entirely: you want fewer, bigger pieces.
Are magnetic tiles worth the money?
They are the fastest-selling thing in this category, and that is the practical problem with them: 62% of the magnetic listings we found were sold out. On price they sit close to the middle of the whole market rather than above it. They suit a younger child than classic bricks do, because a tile snaps into place without fine finger work.
Wooden or plastic blocks?
Wooden is the cheapest type in this data and the most robust, and it is the safest choice for under-threes because there is nothing small to come off. Plastic interlocking bricks do something wooden blocks cannot, which is stay stuck together when a child picks the model up. Most homes end up with both, a couple of years apart.
Why is the cheap set always sold out?
Because it sold. 39% of the block listings in this data were unavailable, and search results do not remove a listing when the stock runs out, so the cheapest thing on the page is often the thing you cannot have. That is the whole Rs 868 gap between the two rows in the first table.
Are blocks safe for a one-year-old?
Only the chunky and wooden kinds. Standard interlocking bricks and the marbles that come with run sets are exactly the size a small child can choke on. Piece size, not piece count, is the thing to read on the box for that age.
Do these prices include delivery?
Usually not. Most of the stores in this data add Rs 200 to Rs 300 at the checkout, and blocks are heavy enough that some of them charge more.

25,971 product listings pulled from 10 Pakistani toy stores, including toyzone.pk, thetoyfactory.pk, toycompany.pk, topifye.com, toymall.pk, planetjunior.pk, kidstorepk.com, onetoystore.com, toynix.pk and babyplanet.pk. Prices and stock were read from the stores' own product data, not typed in by hand. 625 of those listings are building blocks, and 362 of them state a piece count we could read.
